This thing called voice

I've just posted a new column/article on my website, entitled "What is this thing called "voice?" wherein I talk about an author's voice. What is it? Et cetera. I also discuss unity of voice. You can find it here.

In other news, I've just discovered the DVD of the first season of the new BBC version of Robin Hood starring Richard Armitage is going to be on sale on Amazon June 5. It's expensive, but I don't care. I'm buying it. The intense Richard Armitage as the villainous Sir Guy of Gisborne, who sees Marion as his key to redemption? Baby, I'm sold!

And can it possibly be any worse that the Kevin Costner version? (Such a waste of Alan Rickman. I'm still upset about it.)

Cool!

And ya, what a waster of Alan Rickman (I love him!). Robin Hood is not RH without a British Accent.

Btw, happy belated sweet sixteen!

I will be doing the same this summer since I don't subscribe to cable and have been unable to see this show with the utterly gorgeous, sexy, beautiful, smoldering RA.

Great article on voice.

It has taken me a while to find my voice. I tried to do as you mentioned and copy a favorite author's style. Couldn't do it. Too much work to hold it together page after page.

Blogging every day helped. Not only did it let me experiment but it has shown me that there is an audience for my voice.

Which is needed 'cause some people (mostly literary types) hate, hate, hate my voice (did I mention that they hate it?).

Ah, little Red, I believe an entire evening (day?) devoted to said show is in the offing at my house. Smoldering, indeed!!!

FWIW, Kimber, I think the more unique the voice, the more polarized the opinions. Those that love it, really love it; those who don't, really don't.

I still think it's better to be loved and hated for the "real you" than to be a pale imitation of somebody else. So...go, you! :-)

Just read your 'voice' page - welcome advice as always. Split infinitives *bangs head on desk* I never can figure them out. I like Chandler's take. However, I know I'll have to study up on that when I start sending stuff out. (Hope I didn't split any infinitives there.) As for Robin Hood -- I'm going to keep an eye out for that. It's definitely gotta be better than the Costner version! Anything could be.
